We are all suffering during this coronavirus outbreak and suffering the consequences of a lack of beds in our NHS hospitals. Nevertheless, the night is at its darkest just before the dawn. With bed shortages across the country, it is a blessing to hear just yesterday (March 26th) in ‘The Sun’ newspaper that Amir Khan has decided to donate to the cause!
This act is not the first time Amir Khan has offered to aide the public. He had already worked to raise a lump sum of money for the Grenfell Tower fire victims and helped to raise over £80,000 for those who suffered during the Horn of Africa Drought.
Having planned to turn this four-story building into a retail outlet and wedding hall (according to Amir Khan’s twitter), this building has become a light in the darkness for the NHS in Bolton. This building spans a whopping 60,000 square foot in size and could potentially provide refuge and care for a significant number of patients requiring treatment during this worsening crisis.
Were this building to be donated and utilized successfully, the pressure currently on the NHS would be slightly lifted. According to ITV news, the Welsh government was provided with an open letter by 50 NHS staff members detailing the dangers of such bed shortages in their hospitals. With the lack of protective equipment and intensive care beds, staff members describe the situation as dangerous for both patients and staff alike!
If donations like Amir Khan’s continue to pour in, we might just have a chance at getting through this unprecedented COVID-19 Pandemic…together.
