After months of anticipation and speculation, we finally have confirmation who Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will face on his most notable fight date of the year…British WBO World Super Middle Champion Billy Joe Saunders!

It was recently believed to have been a two-horse race on who would have been the opponent for the Mexican Icon, between both undefeated Brits Callum Smith or Billy Joe Saunders.

It’s clear either opponent would have brought a lot to the table what with both of them being Undefeated World Champions but it’s Saunders that has been more vocal about a potential clash with Canelo over the past few years, so now he has gotten what he seems to have wanted the big question is, can he win?

Canelo’s only defeat in his career comes from one of the greats of the modern Boxing era, Floyd Mayweather who himself is undefeated in 50 fights and as for the rest of Canelo’s opponents? The list of high profile names and now ex-champions is extensive over numerous weight divisions, so what makes Saunders believe he can be the one to topple Canelo from his throne?

The odds and opinions of many in the industry are probably going to be heavily favored towards a Canelo win but, you shouldn’t place your bets against Billy Joe just yet, in the ring he is as slippery as they come and has proven he can deal with pressure on the big stage.

This will by far be Saunders biggest fight of his career and at the age of 30 it may be his final chance to really cement his legacy in Boxing history

Canelo, on the other hand, is already not only considered as being one of and if not the Pound for Pound best fighter in Boxing today but has certainly already secured his spot in the Boxing Hall Of Fame, his last time out in in the ring was against none other than the Krusher himself, Sergey Kovalev where Canelo was seemingly behind on points in the fight until Kovalev unraveled after a brilliant left hand from Canelo and then touch with the right bringing Kovalev to a heap on the floor with the referee instantly calling the fight off.

As always this will be a huge fight for the Mexican Boxing fans who religiously follow the career of Canelo however, you can be confident that Billy Joe Saunders will have his fair share of hardcore followers supporting him from the crowd on the night as well as around the world, especially now that is has been announced that DAZN will be entering the U.K market in time for this fight making it even more accessible for the fans of both fighters to watch it live.

Do you think Billy Joe can cause an upset? Or is this just another day at the office for Canelo?

We will find out on May 2nd.
