Cyrus Pattinson Steps Up Against Former British Champion In North East Return
28-year-old Northumberland prospect Cyrus Pattinson (5-0, 3 KOs) will make his first appearance of 2023 on Matchroom Boxing’s “Next Gen” card reported to take place on March 18 at the 10,000-capacity Utilita Arena in Newcastle live on DAZN.
International Boxing News first with the date of the card.
Sources tell NoSmokeBoxing that Pattinson will take a huge step up in competition in the form of the vastly more experienced former British welterweight champion, Chris Jenkins (23-6-3, 8 KOs).
Jenkins is coming off a tight decision loss to MTK Golden Contract finalist Tyrone McKenna back in August. Although on the downward trajectory, Jenkins marks a big jump in levels for Pattinson and a win here for the former Team GB star could fast-track him to a British title shot.
Pattinson impressively dominated and stopped Jorick Luisetto (12-4) inside six rounds in his last contest to claim the IBO Continental strap. Luisetto lost a 78-75 points decision to Florian Marku in late 2021.
Per the BBBofC and International Boxing News, Solomon Dacres (5-0) will challenge Robert Ismay (11-0) for the vacant English Heavyweight title on the same card.
North East prospects Calum French, Pat McCormack and Mark Dickinson are all also expected to return on the bill with McCormack likely to headline the card in a 10-round title bout.
Although not the biggest show, it will be an important night for the development of Matchroom’s North East talent as they move into bigger fights in 2023 and beyond.
