News websites, spectators, and fellow fighters have all been looking forward to the big clash between these two boxing behemoths, Dilian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin. The fight which was previously scheduled for May 2nd in Manchester was postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak and is now rescheduled for August 22nd in The Matchroom ‘Fight Camp Bubble’. The action is expected to get underway from 7:00 pm with the main event tentatively scheduled for 10:30 pm. Both fighters look forward to the big day with the expectations to get a shot at championship glory.
Povetkin (32-2-1) had his last fight last year December with Michael Hunter which ended in a split decision draw. Currently, Povetkin is 1-1-1 in his last three fights, while his last win was against Hughie Fury. Though popular opinion claims that Povetkin’s recent performances might affect his confidence in his next match-up against the 32-year-old Dilian Whyte.
Though Povetkin has achieved many remarkable title runs in recent years, now at 40 years of age, many do question how many big performances he has left in his tank.
DILLIAN WHYTE VS ALEXANDER POVETKIN
Whyte, however, as many perceive to be hungry for a win against Povetkin, has been waiting for over 1000 days for his shot for the WBC title which is currently held by Tyson Fury after a vicious win over the long-standing champion, Deontay Wilder… Whyte (27-1) had his last win against Mariusz Wach via a unanimous decision in Saudi Arabia on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr rematch.
It is a very tough call given that both fighters have very unique and yet unpredictable style’s of stealing the show, but many boxing pundits believe the winner may be whoever lands their big left hook first. While it’s good not to quickly conclude that Whyte wants it more because he has waited so long for it, we might as well be shocked that Povetkin is determined to have one final shot at becoming a world champion, since he fought Wladimir Klitschko for world titles in 2013.
The leading position in the Top-10 Ranking of ‘The Ring’ is shared by Britain’s Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. While the rest of the Top-10 Heavyweights are as follows:
