Dylan Biggs vs Mirko Pizzi Crowns New Australasian Champion
Dylan Biggs cruised to a points win (80-72,80-72,78-74) over Mirko Pizzi, dominating the contest with a much greater display of attacking intent and clever ring generalship. He made Pizzi look static and afraid to commit, perhaps a sign that Biggs’ power, which has helped see him get 5 knockouts in his previous 6 fights, told early doors.
In fact, the theory that Biggs had scared Pizzi into a shell was reinforced by the 5th round, in which Biggs was able to land thudding power shots cleanly on the target, with Pizzi struggling to mask his hurt. Biggs didn’t fight at full pelt throughout the fight however, but he did land some well-crafted combinations at times throughout the contest.
That was probably the only frustrating element of Biggs’ display, that he didn’t stay as busy as he perhaps could in the fight. In the first round, he looked to get the jab going more and it could be argued that if he had used it more, he could have set even up more of his punches in bunches work and also kept Pizzi more occupied. This is nit-picking and shouldn’t detract from the pure one-sidedness of his control over Pizzi.
