Missing out on his opportunity to take on Gennadiy Golovkin in 2016, Chris Eubank Jr now seeks a resolution to that denied rivalry. Revealed by Sky Sports just yesterday, Eubank informed Golovkin that he is “the number one name on my list” to fight with Golovkin holding his ground as the IBF Middleweight Champion. Eubank Jr’s mission: to claim both victories over the champion…and his title.
Golovkin – turning 38 just a few days ago – is the pound-4-pound fighter that Eubank was scheduled to fight in 2016, but denied when the fight was given to Kell Brook.
Eubank Jr described to Sky Sports that this “always irked” him, having his fight with Golovkin “stolen”. Since that time Eubank Jr has “always wanted to fight him” adding that he believes he can defeat Golovkin with his “speed and volume punching”.
Eubank Jr speaks of Canelo to Sky Sports acknowledging that he is the man “everybody would love to fight…but he’s not going anywhere” whereas, Golovkin – he believes – will likely bow out soon following a couple more big fights.
With Eubank Jr’s prediction to be the first fighter to put Golovkin on the floor, his intention is crystal clear: “I’ve been trying to get this fight for years. This is the fight that I want.”
If Eubank Jr confirms the fight, we get to see the epic finish to the long-awaited Golovkin v Eubank Jr rivalry!
Lets hope this fight happens!
