Jesse Rodriguez Returns To San Antonio On April 8 Against Cristian Gonzalez

Per source, WBC Super Flyweight champion Jesse Rodriguez (17-0, 11 KOs) will move down to Flyweight and fight for the vacant WBO world title against the organisation\’s next highest-ranked contender, Mexico\’s Cristian Gonzalez (15-1, 5 KOs) in his next fight.

Rodriguez vs Gonzalez will headline a Matchroom Boxing USA fight night in Bam\’s hometown of San Antonio, Texas, USA on Saturday, April 8 live on DAZN. International Boxing News first reported the date. Multiple world championship bouts are expected on the undercard.

Bam had a tremendous 2022 which began with stepping up two weight classes on ten days\’ notice to floor and outpoint Mexico\’s Carlos Cuadras back in February claiming the vacant WBC world title. The 22-year-old then produced a masterful performance against the highly-regarded Srisaket Sor Runvisai becoming the first fighter to stop Rungvisai in 13 years.

After extending his promotional deal with Eddie Hearn\’s Matchroom Boxing, Rodriguez returned on a huge platform on the Canelo GGG 3 card where he produced a flat performance but still convincingly beat Israel Gonzalez.

Bam has now decided to move down to Flyweight and attempt to become undisputed there with Cristian Gonzalez being the first on the agenda. The WBC champion Julio Cesar Martinez is also with Matchroom and the IBF titleist Sunny Edwards has often expressed and proven his desire to face the best fighters.

The lingering problem for Bam could be WBA champion Artem Dalakian who defends his championship next month on the Beterbiev Yarde undercard. Several reports have indicated that if Dalakian wins, Queensberry Promotions would co-promote the Ukrainian moving forward which would make a cross-promotion necessary for undisputed.
