Fresh from brutally dispatching Jose Marrufo in a round, Rashidi Ellis has the chance to push his claim for a shot at world title honours and what better dancing partner to do so, than Keith Thurman, given the easiness of making that fight as both fights on PBC.
When I spoke to Tony Sims at the Matchroom gym it seemed Conor Benn/Keith Thurman could defy boxing policies and see Matchroom and PBC work in tandem. However, with Keith Thurman back in the mix and PBC loving to make in-house fights, why not throw Ellis in with him now.
Rashidi Ellis vs Keith Thurman
At 29, Ellis is in line for a breakthrough fight, profile-wise. His biggest win to date is Alexis Rocha, which has aged like a fine wine after Rocha stopped Blair ‘The Flair’ Cobbs. On the other side, Thurman defeated Mario Barrios this year to remind people he is still in the conversation.
Clearly, Barrios isn’t on the level of his wins over Shawn Porter or Danny Garcia, but it does at least grant him a degree of credibility that he picked someone deemed a worthy opponent last year for Gervonta Davis.
An all-American clash and if the card is well loaded with an evenly matched Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis contest, then … (pause for cynical groans) in my eyes it’s a legitimate PPV card for PBC.
