Tim Tszyu will face Bakhram Murtazaliev tonight

Tim Tszyu is set to make his return to the ring tonight after taking a split-decision defeat to Sebastian Fundora in March. The 24-1 fighter makes his return against 22-0 Bakhram Murtazaliev, and is already eyeing some mega fights in 2025.

The son of Kostya Tszyu has built a name for himself with a recent run of wins against Tony Harrison (who won a UD in his first fight against Jermell Charlo), Carlos Ocampo, and Brian Mendoza (who KO’d Fundora when they fought).

After losing on a split-decision to Fundora, which many argue was primarily due to a shock cut that left Tszyu covered in blood, Tszyu is back on his second run for the Super Welterweight titles, with Murtazaliev’s IBF title on the line.

In an interview with BoxingScene, Tszyu said, ‘Right now a perfect 2025 would be fighting Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr, and Jermell Charlo, but people’s stocks go up and down every month, and the dynamic changes with new winners and losers.’

Ortiz won a controversial decision victory over Serhii Bohachuk

Tszyu was previously scheduled to fight Vergil Ortiz Jr, who is coming off a controversial win against Serhii Bohachuk, on the Crawford Madrimov card in the US, though the fight fell through due to an injury on Tszyu’s side. Tszyu was also once scheduled to face Jermell Charlo, but that, too, fell through.

When asked about the fight by FightHubTV, Tszyu said ‘I have a plan and there are heaps of fights but we’re both young, there’s no big rush […] we’ve still got heaps of time left’.

Other fighters fans would love to see Tszyu face off against include Erickson Lubin, whilst others think a rematch against Fundora would be in order too.

It remains to be seen what will come next for the Russian-Australian fighter, but he must first get past Murtazaliev tonight in Orlando, on the first non-PPV PBC card on Amazon Prime Video.
