Will the Fury Joshua Fight Ever Happen?

After Fury’s retirement following his defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, and Joshua’s recent loss to Daniel Dubois, is it possible that Fury Joshua will be the biggest fight that never happened?

Tyson Fury caused shockwaves at the start of the year when he announced his retirement, and once again accused the judges of robbing him of a win against the Ukrainian. Though not for the first time, some seem to believe this retirement is final.

Fury has announced his retirement.

Frank Warren has suggested the decision to retire must be Fury’s and his families’ alone, and that he will not try to convince ‘The Gypsy King’ to return to the sport. Fury’s last retirement came after defeating Dillian Whyte, though was short lived when he returned to face Derek Chisora.

Joshua on the other hand has recently suffered the most devastating defeat of his career, after being knocked down multiple times and stopped in emphatic fashion by Daniel Dubois at Wembley. He insists that on his 2025 hit list is a rematch with Dubois, and the long-awaited Fury Joshua fight.

Will Fury Joshua Happen?

With Fury now retired, and talks of Joshua and Deontay Wilder reignited on social media, it begs the question ‘Will the biggest fight in British boxing ever happen?’

Dubois stopped AJ.

Gareth A. Davies spoke on the matter, and said ‘If he wins a shootout with Daniel Dubois, then he could win another world title again,’ when asked if he believes Joshua could become a world champion again.

When posed the same question, but on Fury’s chances, Davies said, ‘It’s a tough one to call. I would say probably, no, like I don’t think Tyson Fury will win another world title again.’

He continues, ‘I think we are witnessing a changing of the guard. Daniel Dubois and Moses Itauma are coming through. Joseph Parker is having his last few opportunities. I don’t see an appetite for these guys [Joshua and Fury] to go on two or three more fights. Maybe Fury only one more.’

On Joshua, Davies finishes saying, ‘I would love to see him have a couple of more fights, but I think Eddie Hearn mentioned he’s struggling with it. He’s struggling with a comeback.’

Eddie Hearn believes Fury’s retirement is a play for more money for the Fury Joshua fight, which means it is still possible the fight goes forward. However, with both men in the closing chapter of their careers, it remains to be seen how much risk they’re willing to take, and, with the dented pride after recent losses, how much they still want it.
