Famino sues Ryan Garcia After Withdrawal From Bout With Japanese Kickboxer

Pay-per-view platform Fanmio has sued Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy Promotions, alleging they unlawfully backed out of a planned fight against Rukiya Anpo in Japan.

Fanmio claims it lost over $1 million promoting a fight between Ryan Garcia and Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo and could have earned another $10 million.

The company has accused Garcia, who cited a hand injury as his reason for withdrawal, of “feigning injury” to avoid his contractual obligations.

Garcia, 26, is serving a one-year suspension after testing positive for Ostarine following his fight with Devin Haney, in which he dropped ‘The Dream’ three times on his way to a now-overturned decision win.

Dispute Over Contract and Injury Claims

Fanmio says Garcia, needing earnings, agreed to the Japan fight since suspended fighters can compete in exhibitions there.

Garcia’s promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, insists it has exclusive rights to Garcia’s fights and never approved the exhibition.

Fanmio argues Golden Boy’s control only covers professional fights, not exhibitions. It also doubts Garcia’s injury claim, noting he is now set to fight Rolly Romero on The Ring Magazine’s card in Times Square, which will also see Devin Haney face Jose Ramirez.

The card, which will take place on Cinco De Mayo weekend, aims to set up a rematch between Haney and Garcia.

The lawsuit includes claims of breach of contract and other claims, though Garcia and Golden Boy are expected to deny wrongdoing and challenge the contract’s validity.
