Usyk’s Promoter Alex Krassyuk DISMISSES Hrgovic IBF Mandatory As Obstacle To Fury Usyk Fight, INSISTS The WBA Is Next In Line

Fury Usyk Undisputed Fight Will Not Be “Spoiled” By Hrgovic, Promoter Alex Krassyuk Has Revealed

Alex Krassyuk, the promoter of unified world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs), assured fight fans in an interview with ID Boxing News that the undisputed clash with Britain’s Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) will not be prevented by the IBF mandatory.

On November 12, the IBF officially ordered their champion Usyk to face the mandatory challenger Croatia’s Fillip Hrgovic (15-0, 12 KOs) next giving the parties until Dec 12 to negotiate before the calling of purse bids. Hrgovics promoter, Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, requested immediate purse bids in line with the IBF rules.

Usyk and Fury have been in negotiations for an undisputed bout for several months now with Usyk’s promoter Krassyuk confident the fight will happen in 2023. The IBF ordering Hrgovic as mandatory could be a major obstacle if there are no exemptions, especially with the governing body known for it’s strictness in enforcing mandatory challengers.

Krassyuk, however, has insisted that the “WBA is next in line”, the promoter condemned the IBF in ordering Usyk-Hrgovic and stated that “we have to respect the rules and customs of boxing. The WBA is next in line and it’s not under discussion.”

The world-renowned promoter also confirmed that the WBA’s president Gilberto Mendoza had sent the IBF an official letter stating the WBA is next in line and the IBF should wait their turn in the order. Krassyuk stated that he doesn’t believe the IBF will spoil the undisputed bout between Usyk and Fury and claimed that if the fight doesn’t happen it can only be down to Tyson Fury.

Queensberry Promotion’s George Warren revealed on the BT Sport telecast for Davies-Baluta that WBA (Regular) Heavyweight titleist, Britain’s Daniel Dubois (18-1, 17 KOs) is officially the WBA mandatory challenger for Usyk. With Fury and Dubois both being under Queensberry, it is very unlikely that would be an obstacle for the undisputed fight if the WBA is next in line.
