BBC Boxing Will Air LIVE Welsh Championship Fights On May 28

Saturday, May 28, Jamie Sanigar (Sanigar Events) brings domestic championship boxing back to BBC Boxing Television live from the 3,500 capacity leisure centre: LC2, Swansea, Wales. The stacked card will feature 9 fights including 6 local prospects and 3 title fights involving four unbeaten records and just the 3 defeats between the six boxers.

In the BBC Boxing main event, Wales\’ Joshua John (4-0) faces the fellow unbeaten prospect, Scotland\’s Mark McKeown (6-0) for the Celtic Feather Title. Neither has been tested before and this marks a big step-up for both. John has the home advantage but McKeown was a much better amateur, boxing for Scotland and Team GB.

On Chief Support, 7-0 Jake Tinklin meets 5-0 Lloyd Germain for the Welsh Welterweight title. Neither have much of an amateur pedigree and this is a massive domestic matchup for each boxer respectively with the opportunity to make a big statement on BBC Wales.

In the third title affair, South-African-Welsh Morgan Jones (14-2) attempts to become a two-weight Welsh champion against Gerome Warburton (9-1-1). Jones previously held the Welsh super-middleweight title in 2019 with his defeats coming prior to that being upset losses to Mose Auimatagi Jnr and journeyman Anthony Fox.

Warburton\’s sole defeat comes to Jhon Jader Obregon as the away fighter in Bilbao on a Matchroom Spain show. Warburton has never won boxed at Welsh championship level and this marks a significant step-up for him.

On the BBC Boxing undercard, Lightweight Nathan Howells (3-0), Heavyweight Moses Jolly (debut), Super Middleweight Ryan Pocock (0-1), Welterweight James Atkins (1-0), Lightweight Ted Barnaby (1-0) and Super Lightweight Tom James (1-0) all feature in four and six round contests.

It’s a sport that resonates with us and as such we are really excited to be able to bring three Welsh title fights free to air on a Saturday night.

It’s also great to broadcast live from Swansea, a city with a fine boxing tradition, and have one of their own, former world champion Enzo Maccarinelli, as part of the commentary team alongside Lauren Price and Gary Lockett. Hopefully, we’ll be watching the next generation of fighters who will follow in their footsteps.”
