When you watch Callum Simpson box, the words that immediately come to mind are ‘Champion in the making’. The Barnsley 8-0 Super Middleweight has stopped his last 6 opponents (including normally durable journeymen) with 4 of them not seeing past the first round.
Journeyman Lewis Van Poetsch, who has been in the ring with some of the best talents across multiple weight classes, puts Callum Simpson in the same bracket as Zach Parker and Lerrone Richards when talking about the best fighters he’s shared the ring with.
This is high praise for a person in the infancy of his career who has not really been recognised outside the biggest of UK hardcores who’ve watched his first-round demolition jobs on Fightzone.
Zach Parker and Lerrone Richards are both unbeaten. One is the IBO Champion and one is the #1 contender for Canelo Alvarez. Putting Simpson in this bracket is a big call but it is not one that many in the boxing industry don’t share from Trainer/Manager Kevin Maree to the top fighters in the sport who have sparred Simpson.
Simpson possesses tremendous punching power with both hands, and accurate, hurtful body shots all set up by a first-rate left-hand lead. It’s an exciting and simple style but highly effective.
Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight are two of the more thriving divisions in British boxing and there is no doubt that the man from Barnsley will be a crucial part of them in the years to come.
Callum Simpson Next Fight and Future
Callum Simpson Returns on July 2 at the Metrodome in Barnsley on a Josh Wale Promotion against Netherlands southpaw Farouk Daku (21-20-1) who has been stopped just 5 times in 42 contests. Daku last fought in October 2021 against Mark Heffron losing by third-round stoppage. Simpson will be looking to one better that performance and become the fastest man to stop Daku.
