Fiaz v Baker Latest: Eddie Hearn Comments on Irregular Betting Activity

Yesterday night saw the return of Felix Cash take on Tyler Denny following an 18-month lay-off. On the undercard, Kane Baker was set to face Aqib Fiaz for the second time, in what would be Kane Baker’s final fight. In a recent interview, Eddie Hearn comments on the bizarre reason this fight did not take place.

The card ended on a somewhat disappointing note with the headline event halted due to a cut on the head of Felix Cash. The bout was halted in round 5, allowing the fight to go to the judges’ scorecards, where Tyler Denny secured the win over Cash, whose inactivity seemed to be a key element in his loss. This marks the first loss for Cash.

Also on the card, Conah Walker took on Lewis Crocker in an absolute slugfest, with Crocker emerging victorious in what was undoubtedly an extremely close fight.

However, one fight that unfortunately did not take place was Aqib Fiaz vs Kane Baker 2. The pair first met in 2020 where Fiaz defeated Baker with a scorecard of 77-75. Baker has since gone 6-4-2, with his record now standing at 19-11-2. The two fighters were scheduled to fight in what Baker declared would be his last fight before retirement.

Eddie Hearn Comments

In a recent interview, Eddie Hearn comments on the cancelled bout, saying:

‘I was made aware of some irregular betting activity around the fight’, ‘I had to look into it […] and I made the decision to pull the fight’.

He elaborates, ‘I spoke to the British Boxing Board of Control, I told them what I’d done, I said I’m gonna pull the fight they agreed with me.’

‘In fifteen years I’ve never dealt with anything like this’, Eddie Hearn comments.

When asked in an interview with IFL which side the irregular betting came from, Baker or Fiaz, Hearn refused to disclose, suggesting an investigation is underway.

Kane Baker has released a statement in response to allegations:

Baker also took to Instagram to state:

Aqib Fiaz is yet to comment.

The nature of the betting is still unknown, or who was behind it, though an investigation is sure to bring out the answers.
