Ekow Essuman Next Fight Agreed Against Mandatory Challenger For British Title

Unbeaten British and Commonwealth Welterweight Champion, Nottingham-based Ekow Essuman (17-0) will defend his titles against the English Champion and mandatory challenger Samuel Antwi (14-1). Per the British Boxing Board Of Control, Essuman vs Antwi will be promoted on a Frank Warren – BT Sport show at a date and venue to be advised.

Ekow Essuman dethroned former champion, Chris Jenkins, for the titles via an 8th-round KO after a brutal body attack on the Joyce Takam card 12 months ago. He made his first defence against Danny Ball where he once again proved his class breaking Ball’s jaw en route to a 6th-round KO. Essuman’s latest appearance was an underwhelming, lacklustre points win over Darren Tetley on the Fury Whyte card.

Samuel Antwi’s sole career defeat comes to Emmany Kalombo back in 2018. Since then he has won 7 consecutive fights including stoppage wins over Jez Smith and Darren Tetley as well as a points win over unbeaten midlands welterweight Conah Walker in an exciting affair. Antwi goes into the Essuman fight as a slight underdog but it is a very competitive fight and one Antwi can definitely win.

Ekow Essuman Next Fight – Show Possibilities

Queensberry promotions will be staging a show on September 24 headlined by Joe Joyce, likely at Wembley arena. Daniel Dubois, Zach Parker and Beterbeiv Yarde are 3 other options for this to land in an undercard slot in the last third of the year. Alternatively, a fight like this could top a smaller show at York Hall.

Should Beterbiev Yarde land at the O2 on BT Sport Box Office, it would need a stellar undercard and this is the kind of fight that should be placed onto that card. A Zach Parker undercard is unlikely as Queensberry already has a strong selection of midlands talent and this fight will not particularly move the needle in tickets so better off on the undercard of a major draw.
