Anthony Joshua’s Next Fight Will Almost Definitely Be Against The Dillian Whyte – Jermaine Franklin Winner, Despite Who Wins
When questioned about the existence of a rematch clause in Saturday’s major heavyweight fight between Dillian Whyte and Jermaine Franklin, Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing confirmed that his company instead has ‘promotional options’ on Franklin that would allow him to co-promote the American’s next fight should he beat Whyte.
Eddie Hearn “We would say to Jermaine Franklin ‘you’re getting the opportunity of a lifetime, if you beat Dillian Whyte, you’re gonna double/treble your money’.”
“We would have the right to put him in another fight…it’s like a promotional option on a fighter. That could be a rematch with Dillian Whyte, a fight with Zhilei Zhang, Fillip Hrgovic etc”
The British promoter then went on to admit that if Franklin pulled off the upset against Whyte, there is only one fight he would be looking to put him in.
“But I’ll be honest, if Jermaine Franklin wins on Saturday night, I’ll put him straight in with AJ. It would be a massive fight. An American knocking out or beating Dillian Whyte, he would be the natural choice for AJ but obviously, we want Dilian Whyte to win, we want to make that fight.”
Whyte and Franklin meet at Wembley’s OVO Arena this Saturday, televised live on DAZN worldwide. A 2023 fight with one of boxing’s biggest stars in Anthony Joshua looms for the winner.
