Troy Williamson vs Josh Kelly: British Title Fight Targeted For December 2

Troy Williamson vs Josh Kelly – Major North East Bout Confirmed For December In Newcastle

Darlington’s Troy Williamson (19-0-1, 14 KOs) will defend his British Super Welterweight championship against Sunderland’s Josh Kelly (12-1-1, 7 KOs) in a massive North East collision targeted for Friday, December 2 – according to InternationalBoxingNews.

Williamson vs Kelly, a Kalle Sauerland/Wasserman Boxing lead promotion in association with Probellum, was confirmed to take place live and free on Channel 5 in Newcastle, England yesterday on the Lyndon Arthur broadcast. The fight will likely take place at the Utilita Arena, a fitting venue for a significant local clash.

Williamson won the British title with a stoppage win in a fight of the year contender against Ted Cheeseman last year. A fight that seems to have taken a lot out of him.

The unbeaten Darlington champion made his only defence against Mason Cartwright earlier this year in a close bout which saw Williamson get off the floor in round 2 to outpoint Cartwright on narrow margins.

In a second consecutive underwhelming performance, Williamson halted David Benitez (8-7) in the sixth round yesterday on his Channel 5 debut after five lacklustre rounds where Benitez was much more competitive than he should’ve been.

Kelly signed with Sauerland’s Wasserman after suffering his lone career defeat to European champion David Avanesyan earlier last year.

After an 18-month hiatus, Kelly scored a TKO win over Peter Kramer in four in June before returning one month later to decision Lucas Bastida over ten rounds in an uninspiring performance.

Williamson goes in as a favourite in this fight and many are surprised that Kelly has chosen to take this test when he could’ve gone another route and built some confidence again. However, after Williamson’s last couple of performances, you can’t blame Kelly for thinking he can win this fight.
