South Africa’s Zolani Tete Failed Drugs Test For July 2 Jason Cunningham Fight

Zolani Tete’s 4th-round KO Win Over Jason Cunningham Falls Into Controversy As Failed Dope Test Revealed

South African newspaper “Daily Dispatch” today broke that former two-weight world champion, South Africa’s Zolani Tete (30-4, 23 KOs) failed a drugs test in the aftermath of his July 2 UK bout with Doncaster’s Jason Cunningham (31-6). This failed UKAD test leaves him facing a potential four-year ban although a b-sample has not yet been examined.

Tete dominated and brutally stopped Cunningham to explode onto the 122-pound world scene. The South African dropped Cunningham with a precise 1-2 and followed it up with an unanswered flurry ending with a scary left hand that saw the Englishmen fall head first onto the canvas.

Cunningham was down for several minutes and treated by paramedics before making it onto his feet. The win now comes into question after Tete’s failed test was revealed and what leaves even more of a bad taste in fans’ mouths is the viciousness of the knockout.

The Daily Dispatch revealed that Zolani Tete’s team plans to challenge the finding and deny any wrongdoing on their part. The substance has not been revealed but is believed to be a ‘muscle-cutting agent’ per the South African Journal.
