Conor McGregor has spoken out on X about his next move in combat sports. The Irishman has not fought since losing to Dustin Poirier in 2021, and looks to return at some point next year, though not in the octagon like many would have expected. McGregor has claimed he is in talks to face Logan Paul, brother of Jake Paul, in an exhibition bout in India.
McGregor was most recently scheduled to fight Michael Chandler, though this never materialised due to injury on McGregor’s side. Since then, rumours of a matchup against Ilia Topuria have floated around, though Conor put these to bed in his social media post.
Logan Paul, on the other hand, has almost entirely moved beyond boxing, instead focussing much of his attention of wrestling in the WWE. Paul has had one bout since his exhibition fight with Floyd Mayweather in 2021, in which he faced McGregor’s training partner, Dillon Danis. The fight wasn’t great viewing, and was made even worse as Danis attempted to take Logan down and rolled on the floor as he realised he was losing.
McGregor and Paul have notably both faced Floyd Mayweather, with Mayweather defeating McGregor by 10th-round TKO in their fight in 2017, which accumulated around 4.3 million PPV buys. Paul went the full 8-rounds of their exhibition bout, and though no winner was declared, Compubox stats give an indication, with Mayweather landing 43 of 107 punches, and Paul landing 28 of 217 thrown.
Conor McGregor vs Logan Paul
On X, Conor McGregor posted the following, ‘The rumors of a bout with Topuria are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon.’
For most, the Paul name is connected to boxing primarily through Logan’s brother, Jake, who most recently faced a near-sixty-year-old Mike Tyson, carrying him the distance and winning on points. Jake has spent years calling out Conor McGregor, after facing fellow MMA fighters in the ring such as Tyron Woodley, Ben Askren, and Nate Diaz.
It remains to be seen if this fight will come to fruition, and what weight it will be held at, with Logan Paul standing at 6 foot 2, and McGregor at 5 foot 9.
