PROFESSIONAL OR INFLUENCER BOXING – WHAT’S NEXT FOR TOMMY FURY
After a last-minute exhibition match on Sunday at Global Titans, what’s next for Tommy Fury, who continues to be drawn into feuds within the influencer “white-collar” boxing scene?
Never far from controversy, Tommy “TNT” Fury (8-0, 4 KOs) found himself in the spotlight once again this weekend when his fight against Paul Bamba (5-2, 4 KOs) was canceled on the day of the event.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR TOMMY FURY
The issue arose when Tommy Fury came in 7lbs over the agreed weight for their scheduled co-main event on the Mayweather vs. Deji card in Dubai. Fury later claimed on social media, “One contract was given to Paul Bamba and one to myself, and I made the weight in my contract.”
Global Titans has since confirmed that both fighters were contracted to different weight limits, and Fury received his full purse. As a result, WBC and WBA Asia champion Rolly Lambert (15-1-1, 12 KOs) stepped in as a last-minute replacement for a 6-round exhibition match.
So, what’s next for Tommy Fury? The obvious next step could be the long-awaited fight against Jake Paul, who was ringside and commentating during Fury’s exhibition on Sunday.
Dressed in a Hulk Hogan-themed “Hulkster” T-shirt, Paul took shots at Fury’s performance, reigniting their rivalry after two previously canceled bouts—one due to Fury’s illness and the other due to travel restrictions preventing Fury from entering the U.S. Post-fight, the two exchanged words, with Fury’s father, John Fury, dramatically removing his shirt and challenging Paul to enter the ring, adding to the spectacle.
Jake Paul has since issued a public challenge, stating via Twitter that if Fury can’t travel to the U.S., he’s willing to fight in the UK, potentially in London or Manchester in February. Paul has set a seven-day deadline for Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, to finalize the contract.
If Fury agrees to the fight, the financial rewards are clear, but it raises questions about his long-term ambitions. Critics suggest Fury may be “cashing out” by pursuing high-profile matches against Jake Paul and fellow social media star KSI, instead of focusing on genuine professional competition.
A loss to either influencer could damage his reputation and undermine the Fury family legacy—one his older brother, WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has worked hard to establish.
Though Tommy Fury remains undefeated, his record thus far hasn’t made waves. Despite his talent, his career has stalled, with only one fight this year, a points victory over Polish light heavyweight Daniel Bocianski (11-2, 2 KOs) on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s bout with Dillian Whyte. Many expected Tommy to win more convincingly, leaving fans unimpressed.
Meanwhile, outside the ring, Tommy is preparing for the arrival of his first child with partner Molly-Mae Hague, a fellow 2019 Love Island contestant and social media star in her own right. As influencer-driven boxing continues to grow, with promotions like Global Titans, KSI’s Misfits Boxing, and Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions gaining traction, Tommy Fury faces a crossroads.
A victory over Jake Paul could give him the option to either chase financial success in the influencer boxing circuit or pursue a legacy in professional boxing. The question is: which path will he choose?
