Ben Whittaker QUIT In Sparring Against MIDDLEWEIGHT – Dominic Ingle Reveals ALL

In a recent interview, Dominic Ingle reveals that Saturday night’s bout against Liam Cameron was not the first time Ben Whittaker has quit a fight.

Saturday night saw the long-awaited clash for the Undisputed Light-Heavyweight crown, with Artur Beterbiev handing Dmitry Bivol his first defeat in a close decision victory, cementing himself as an elite P4P fighter.

The card featured many impressive and memorable moments, from Fabio Wardley stopping Frazer Clarke in just one round in their much-anticipated rematch, to Jai Opeteia stopping the durable Jack Massey in Round 6, and Chris Eubank Jr claiming the IBO Middleweight World Title in a destructive performance against Kamil Szeremeta.

Early on in the card, however, fans witnessed the bizarre moment social-media sensation Ben Whittaker and his opponent Liam Cameron fell together over the top rope and out of the ring, with Whittaker claiming an ankle injury upon his return to the ring.

Liam Cameron, who most recently lost a close split-decision fight to Lyndon Arthur, claimed to have heard Whittaker’s corner telling him to ‘stay down and pretend you’re hurt’, and that Whittaker knew he was losing rounds to the Sheffield native, and opted to bow out of the fight as a result.

Whittaker QUIT in Sparring

In an interview with Johnny Nelson posted to YouTube by BoxingKingMedia, boxing trainer Dominic Ingle claimed to not rate Ben Whittaker very highly. When asked why, Ingle tells of a time middleweight boxer, Liam Williams was sparring multiple sparring partners for four rounds each, with Whittaker, a light-heavyweight, being one of them.

Liam Williams ‘pressured’ Ben Whittaker in sparring.

Ingle states Whittaker ‘came in doing all this flashy stuff,’ and that ‘Liam pressured him and after 3 rounds, Ben had had enough and jumped out. He didn’t do 4 rounds.’

He continues, ‘That says a lot about a fighter. Even if you’re getting a pasting in a sparring session, the name of the game is to finish what you’re doing.’

For many, Whittaker’s career may already be somewhat tarnished, with many ascribing him the moniker ‘Quittaker’ as a result of Saturday’s antics. Despite this, his promoter Ben Shalom has come to his defense suggesting Whittaker has genuinely suffered a sprained ankle.
