Derek Chisora vs Jarrell Miller Now in Doubt – Who Might Del Boy Face Next?

One of Britain’s most beloved heavyweights, Derek Chisora, is set to headline a show in Manchester in February. Though in the twilight of his career, ‘Del Boy’ has made it clear he has no plans to hang up the gloves until he has fifty fights under his belt. Jarrell Miller was set to be Chisora’s dance partner in what will be his penultimate fight, though it has been reported that the fight is now in doubt.

It’s unclear why the Jarrell Miller fight is in doubt, though it has been reported Chisora is still set to headline the event. Chisora now sits at a record of 35-13, with recent wins over Kubrat Pulev, Gerald Washington, and most recently, Joe Joyce.

Chisora’s record is a deceptive one, as despite there being thirteen losses, Chisora has lost to only nine opponents, including Kubrat Pulev, a loss which Chisora avenged recently, Robert Helenius, a decision which many deem controversial, two close fights with Dillian Whyte, a very close fight with Joseph Parker and some real wars against elite competition in David Haye, Vitali Klitschko, Tyson Fury and P4P great, Oleksandr Usyk.

Jarrell Miller on the other hand is coming off a draw against Andy Ruiz, and a loss to Daniel Dubois.

Who’s Next For Derek Chisora?

With Miller seemingly out of the picture, here are three potential frontrunners for the headline slot in Manchester.

1. Dillian Whyte

In what would mark a blockbuster conclusion to the all-British rivalry, Dillian Whyte could forgo his plans to fight Emmanuel Tetteh in Gibraltar to take on Derek Chisora for the third time. The pair first met in 2016, which Whyte won by a single round. The rematch in 2018 saw Chisora ahead by a round on two scorecards going into the eleventh round, where Whyte stole the show, stopping Del Boy. As Whyte continues to build his way back to the top of heavyweight boxing, and Chisora winds down, we may see the pair meet once more.

2. Hughie Fury

Though unlikely due to Fury’s promotional ties to Boxxer, Hughie Fury could make for an exciting match-up. The younger, fresher, 29-3 Manchester native has shared the ring with Pulev, Povetkin, and Parker, though his best wins come against the likes of Christian Hammer and some lesser-known opposition. With Chisora losing to Hughie’s cousin, Tyson, three times, this could be a way for Derek to get one up on the Fury name.

3. Lawrence Okolie

Now with Queensberry, Lawrence Okolie is set to make his debut at heavyweight next month, against 18-1 Hussein Muhamed. The former Cruiserweight (& Bridgerweight) World Champion has only one loss on his record, at the hands of Chris Billam-Smith. Okolie has aspirations to become a contender at heavyweight, and a fight against Chisora could solidify his position at the weight, or be another upset for the Finchley legend.
