Eddie Hearn Labels Kiko Martinez As ‘Very Dangerous’ Opponent For Leigh Wood

WBA Featherweight Champion Leigh Wood will headline a big Matchroom on DAZN UK card on September 24 in Nottingham. Wood is the mandatory challenger to Leo Santa Cruz, but the complications around the scenario centring around the split of 25%, which the Wood camp has stated is ‘unfair’, has stopped that fight from materialising. The purse bids for LSC -Wood is scheduled for August 12th but Wood is not expected to take this fight.

Instead, the Nottingham champion will headline in his hometown and target a Josh Warrington stadium fight next year should Warrington get past his little-known mandatory in Top Rank signed Mexican Luis Alberto Lopez.

There are many options on the table but the two that have been publicised as opponents are Mexican dangerman, Mauricio Lara and Spain’s Kiko Martinez. The reaction from fans has been very welcoming towards Wood vs Lara and much more negative regarding Wood vs Martinez.

Per Sources, Kiko Martinez is the front runner, but that can change. NoSmokeBoxing asked Eddie Hearn about the proposition of Martinez as an opponent for Wood. Eddie Hearn ‘I like Kiko Martinez as a fight as well (as Mauricio Lara), he’s towards the end of his career obviously but busted Josh Warrington’s jaw and knocked out Kid Galahad. he’s very very dangerous but we’ll see what happens’
