This Saturday night will see Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois, in what will be a record-breaking night for British boxing, with up to 96,000 fans in attendance. The night will see Daniel Dubois aim to defend his IBF world title against AJ, who hopes to become a three-time world champion. However, last night’s Grand Arrivals cast some doubt over Dubois’ team, with Don Charles nowhere to be seen.
The pair face off at the top of an undercard full of all-British match-ups, including Anthony Cacace vs Josh Warrington, Josh Kelly vs Ishmael Davis, Tyler Denny vs Hamzah Sheeraz, and Mark Chamberlain vs Josh Padley.
Dubois is coming off a run of good form, with his last four fights being a TKO win over Kevin Lerena, a stoppage loss to Usyk, and most recently an impressive series of stoppages against Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic, who he defeated to win the IBF interim belt, which was since upgraded to the full belt.
Joshua has also impressed recently, stopping Francis Ngannou in only two rounds in his most recent bout, and stopping both Otto Wallin and Robert Helenius in his two fights prior to that. Many attribute AJ’s recent success to his new partnership with trainer Ben Davison, who he started working with after the Helenius fight.
Daniel Dubois’ Trainer Missing?
The Grand Arrivals for the event occurred yesterday in Leicester Square, and interestingly, Daniel Dubois’ trainer, Don Charles, was nowhere to be seen.
When asked of his whereabouts, Dubois said ‘I have no idea where he is, all that matters is he’s there on fight night’.
Don Charles has notably not turned up for Daniel Dubois’ public workout either.
On a week where most would expect a trainer and their fighter to be inseparable, it seems odd that Don Charles was nowhere to be seen, and that Dubois had no idea of his whereabouts. It remains to be seen whether Don Charles will appear at any of the other media events this week.
