Deontay Wilder Eyes Clash With Ngannou NEXT
Deontay Wilder, once the most feared man in the heavyweight division, has spoken out on his devastating losses against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang. Many saw Wilder’s KO loss to Zhang as a career-ending loss, but Wilder insists he will not retire, and is eyeing a big fight next.
In an interview with TMZ, Deontay Wilder spoke out on his recent losses, stating he had a broken arm for both fights, but didn’t realise it.
He said, ‘I broke my arm way back in November sometime. I didn’t know. I had two tears on my shoulder. I could feel the pain, but I just thought it was old injuries. But I got an MRI and everything was f***ed up there. I didn’t know because I’ve got a high tolerance of pain.’
For many fight fans, this adds to a long list of potential excuses Wilder has made for his losses, including that his suit was too heavy and that there was something in his water – both excuses he made for his losses to Tyson Fury. For others, it was clear that Wilder was not his usual self, afraid to let off his star weapon – his right hand – in both fights.
Deontay Wilder has won only one of his last five fights, with that one win being against Robert Helenius, who Wilder stopped in round one. Wilder’s most recent win besides the Helenius fight is almost five years ago now when Wilder defeated Luis Ortiz.
Despite this, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ insists he is not retiring yet – ‘The best is yet to come. Yeah we’re still going. We’re still here, just getting things together.’
Deontay Wilder Vs Francis Ngannou
In the same interview, Wilder passes his condolences to Francis Ngannou, who lost his son this year, and suggested he is eyeing up a fight with the MMA champ.
‘I can only imagine what it’s like to lose a child. I never hope to feel that feeling. I hope life is going beautifully for you brother. That [fight] is a conversation I’m still looking to get in the mix and talk about.’
Ngannou is now 0-2 in professional boxing, though ran Tyson Fury very close, losing only on a split decision. He was stopped in his next bout by Anthony Joshua.
