Fury vs Joshua In Jeopardy As Frank Warren Sets Short Deadline For Joshua To Accept Deal
Queensberry Promotions and Frank Warren have given Anthony Joshua a deadline of the end of today – Thursday 8th September – to accept a deal to face WBC Heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury.
Frank Warren told IFL TV that “It’s a 60-40 deal” but there is a rematch clause if Joshua wins and the split in the rematch is 50-50. Frank Warren has given Joshua the choice of either December 3 or November 26 for the fight.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn/Matchroom Boxing previously told Fight Hub TV that the original date Queensberry suggested was the 12th of November but Joshua wouldn’t be ready in time.
Eddie Hearn stated that Queensberry already had the 17th of December at the principality reserved and Anthony Joshua would accept that date. However, Queensberry have not offered that date and forced Joshua to pick between Nov 26 and Dec 3 or lose out on the fight.
Interestingly, Warren previously stated the offer was for the fight to take place in the UK. Due to the weather in the UK at that time of the year, it would have to take place in an indoor stadium.
The Principality Stadium in Cardiff, which has been used for several boxing events when an outdoor stadium is not an option, has been booked for all four Saturdays in November.
This would eliminate a Nov 26 fight in the UK for the Principality. With the world cup fixtures, there is also a chance that England could play on Dec 3 and it would be disastrous to clash with that.
