George Kambosos Jr’s career has skyrocketed since his upset win over Teofimo Lopez in 2021 and despite three losses since then is set for a big fight with Richardson Hitchins after signing with Matchroom. However, there have been many rumours around George Kambosos Jr next fight, and how it may put the Australian in good stead for a new era of his career at 140.
George Kambosos Jr first caused shockwaves in the division when he faced Teofimo Lopez. Kambosos was a huge underdog in the fight and caused a dramatic upset when he dropped Lopez in the very first round, going on to win by split decision.
Kambosos has since gone on to fight the likes of Devin Haney, Maxi Hughes, and Vasily Lomachenko. Despite losing to Haney (twice), Lomachenko, and in many fans’ eyes Hughes (although he did get the win in that one), it’s clear that the Greek-Australian fighter is not one to shy away from a challenge.
George Kambosos Jr Next Fight
After signing with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom, it has become clear that the plan is for Richardson Hitchins to defend his new world title against George Kambosos Jr at 140. This comes after Hitchins defeated Kambosos’ fellow Australian Liam Paro to claim the IBF World title.
Hearn has stated, however, that Kambosos will have one fight before he faces Hitchins. It was first rumoured that Kambosos Jr. would face Canadian Mathieu Germain, who is ranked #12 by the IBF.
However, in a recent interview with Hearn, Irish boxer Darragh Foley confronts the promoter on Kambosos’ opponent, stating, ‘What’s going on? you’ve signed Kambosos and he’s fighting some Canadian bloke’ to which Hearn responds, ‘No he’s not Canadian’. Foley defeated Robbie Davies Jr and went on to face Jack Catterall in Catterall’s Matchroom debut.
In terms of IBF-ranked fighters, many are already in discussions for their own fights, with Catterall and Barboza set to face off, Subriel Matias in talks with Teofimo Lopez, and so it is unclear who George Kambosos Jr next fight will be against.
Possible options are Jamaine Ortiz, who is #14, Jose Ramirez who sits at #9, or Elvis Rodriguez, who is ranked #7. Darragh Foley has suggested he should be the one to face Kambosos, though Hearn said the Irishman needed to pick up a win first.
George Kambosos Jr next fight is set to take place in March, likely in Australia.
