Jermell Charlo Teases Comeback at 154lbs
In a recent post on Instagram, Jermell Charlo has teased his return to the ring, and the weight he’ll be returning at. This comes after Charlo took his second-ever loss in a fight against Canelo Alvarez at 167lbs.
Jermell has been fairly inactive recently, fighting only once a year since 2019, and having won two of his last four fights, following a loss to Canelo and a draw to Brian Castano, who Charlo stopped in their rematch. It’s now coming up to a year since Charlo last fought, challenging for Canelo’s Super Middleweight titles in what many criticised as a poor effort from Charlo, losing widely on points.
Jermell Charlo Comeback
Yesterday, Charlo posted an Instagram story with the following caption:
‘Just know I’m back at 154, The king of super welterweight’
With Terence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov coming up next week for the WBA World title and WBO Interim World title at Super Welterweight, many fans have suggested the winner face Charlo next.
Other suggestions include Tim Tszyu, who comes off a loss to Sebastian Fundora as a result of a horrific cut in their clash. This match-up was meant to happen in January 2023 but was canceled after Charlo had to withdraw with hand injuries.
Vergil Ortiz Jr is another name in the mix, though he is scheduled to fight Serhii Bohachuk next month after his own match-up with Tim Tszyu was canceled as a result of Tsyzu being injured.
Jermell Charlo has not yet given any indication on when his comeback will take place, or who it will be against.
