Jamie Mitchell To Defend World Bantamweight Title In Dubai Against British Opponent

Per multiple sources, Bantamweight world champion Jamie Mitchell (8-0-2, 5 KOs) will make the second defence of her WBA World Championship against Essex’s Commonwealth Super Bantamweight titlist Nina Hughes (3-0, 1 KOs)

Mitchell Hughes will take place on the 26th of November at the OVO Arena, Wembley, London, England. The card is expected to be headlined by Dillian Whyte and be a show co promoted by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

(EDIT – NoSmokeBoxing has been informed that the fight will take place in Dubai, UAE instead on the same day)

Hughes marks the third successive British fighter that Los Angeles native Mitchell has fought. The American upset Shannon Courtenay to win the world title in Liverpool last year and made her sole defence against Carly Skelly in Phoenix, defending her title via 4th-round TKO.

Jamie Mitchell could rematch Courtenay at some point next year and/or face the winner of Ebanie Bridges and Shannon O’Connell, which will take place on Dec 10 in Leeds, in a WBA/IBF unification contest.

40-year-old Hughes will realise that this is likely her only opportunity at world honours and must take it with both hands. She is also scheduled to fight this Saturday, Oct 15 against an undetermined opponent at the Civic Hall, Grays.
