Felix Cash Mandated To Fight For The European Middleweight Title
Unbeaten middleweight, Britain’s Felix Cash (15-0, 10 KOs), has been mandated to face Italy’s Matteo Signani (32-6-3, 12 KOs) for Signani’s European middleweight title. The EBU has set a purse bid deadline for Thursday, December 15, at 12 noon.
Matteo Signani Ordered To Face Felix Cash Next
Before that, Cash will return to the ring against an undetermined opponent on the undercard of Featherweight World Champion Josh Warrington’s IBF mandatory defense against Mexico’s Luis Alberto Lopez on December 10 at the First Direct Arena, Leeds. Ebanie Bridges will also feature on that card, defending her world title against Shannon O’Connell.
Cash was originally set to be the mandatory challenger for the winner of the first Signani-Anderson Prestot bout. However, after the controversial nature of their June fight—where Signani temporarily lost his title—the EBU ordered an immediate rematch. Signani regained his belt in the second fight, stopping Prestot with a 7th-round TKO.
Cash has only fought once this year and has been relatively inactive over the last few years due to personal issues and bad luck, which have hindered his momentum. Meanwhile, his peers, such as Denzel Bentley—who fought for the world middleweight title this month—have advanced. Notably, Cash demolished Bentley in just three rounds in April 2021 but hasn’t had a similar opportunity since.
If Cash successfully comes through his December 10 fight, which is expected to be a tune-up, he’ll aim for a European title challenge in early 2023, hoping to secure a world title shot by the end of the year.
Ranked #4 by the WBO, this is likely the most straightforward path for Cash to take. However, he is also ranked in the top 10 by the IBF and the top 15 by the WBA.
