Tyson Fury is scheduled to fight Oleksandr Usyk for the second time on December 21st, following his first career defeat when the pair crossed paths before in May. For many, the fight was fairly close, with the result being a split decision win for the Ukrainian.

Though Fury’s team believed they won the fight, Fury has vowed to come into the rematch better than ever.

Fury Reveals Tragic Loss of Child

Today Fury revealed that at the time of his bout with Usyk, his wife was 6 months pregnant, and that she was unable to attend the event due to high blood pressure. He says she later lost the baby but didn’t reveal this to him until he returned home.

He said, ‘I am not making excuses but she was six months pregnant. It’s not like a small miscarriage at the beginning, you have to physically give birth to a dead child, on your own, while your husband is in a foreign country. To go through that on your own isn’t good.’

He continues, ‘When she said she couldn’t come over, I knew there was a problem, […] Turki Alalshikh offered us a private jet to get around the high blood pressure and said she could bring the doctor with her. She said she couldn’t come. I asked her what was up and asked her to tell me, but she wouldn’t. So I knew.’

Fury concludes, ‘She never told me she had lost the baby, but I knew. When I got back I got the inevitable confirmation that it was gone, but she had kept it to herself.’

Fury’s fight with Usyk marked the first battle for the undisputed heavyweight titles since Lennox Lewis’ time holding the title, and though Fury fell short, he is not to be written off in the coming rematch.

Fury fights Oleksandr Usyk on December 21st at the top of a stacked undercard featuring Serhii Bohachuk vs Israil Madrimov, Moses Itauma vs Demsey McKean, Johnny Fisher vs Dave Allen, and Peter McGrail vs Dennis McCann.
