Ben Whittaker v Liam Cameron 2 Preview and Prediction: Can Whittaker Silence Critics

Ben Whittaker faces the biggest test of his career this Sunday as he looks to silence his critics in the highly anticipated rematch with rival Liam Cameron in Birmingham.

The pair will meet back in the ring six months on from their chaotic first clash that saw both men tumble over the top rope leaving ‘The Surgeon’ unable to continue, facing major backlash and accusations of quitting.

With five rounds of the contest having been completed the decision went to the judges scorecards, with them scoring the bout a technical draw, a decision Cameron was disgruntled with feeling he was getting the better of his opponent.

Both men will now meet looking to settle any doubts, both coming off what has seemingly been strong camps and looking in career best shape in preparation for a potentially career defining fight.

Whittaker has switched up his team heading into the rematch, linking up with in demand trainer Andy Lee who has shaped the career resurgence of heavyweight Joseph Parker and also added British middleweight Hamzah Sheeraz to his ranks.

The 27-year old sought a new voice in his corner having spent the beginning of his pro career under the tutelage of SugarHill Stewart and amateur mentor Joby Clayton, feeling the change was needed to ensure development and improvement in his training and performance.

Lee, a former WBO middleweight champion who honed his craft at the iconic Kronk Gym now has the Olympic silver medalist training at Ballybrack Boxing Club in Dublin, with the relocation showing his commitment to the latest and perhaps most crucial chapter in his career.

Cameron currently based in the Steel City Gym, Sheffield, is partnered with Pearce Gudgeon with the Yorkshire based trainer being an influential figure in his return to the ring following nearly a five year absence from the sport following a failed drug test.

Writers Prediction on Ben Whittaker v Liam Cameron 2

Despite the fight being very much early in the professional career of Whittaker, with the hometown bout only his tenth since turning over in 2022, it feels like a major fight that could shape the remainder of his career trajectory.

There is no doubt that the performance offered by the Midlands native in Saudi Arabia was the worst of his career and there will be much improvement under the guidance of Andy Lee who’s had a major impact on many recent fighters in their corner.

But will that be enough to get the better of Liam Cameron, who will be entering the contest in full confidence that he can get the best of Whittaker in his own backyard having really impressed in their opening encounter.

Prediction: Expecting the fight to go the distance in a very tight decision win for Liam Cameron.
