Bob Arum Plans To Make Haney vs Lomachenko Next And Match Shakur Stevenson With The Winner
Arum Eyes Haney vs Lomachenko Next If Loma Gets Past Oct 29 Tune-Up Fight
Veteran promoter Bob Arum (Top Rank) told Seconds Out in an exclusive interview that he would like to match undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) with three-weight world titleist and former unified champion Vasyl Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) in 2023 should the Ukrainian win his next contest.
Lomachenko faces unbeaten American Jamaine Ortiz (16-0-1, 8 KOs) on the 29th of October at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden live on ESPN + in the US and Sky Sports in the UK.
Haney convincingly outpointed Australian George Kambosos Jr in their rematch last Saturday after previously winning a dominant decision in June.
Arum also explained that he wants the Haney vs Lomachenko winner to face two-weight and former unified 130-pound champion Shakur Stevenson (19-0, 9 KOs). Stevenson is one of the best young talents in the sport and arguably already a P4P top 10 fighter.
He was forced to vacate his titles after failing to meet the 130 limit before his fight with Robson Conceicao in September and will be moving up as a result.
Haney has also looked very tight at 135 for at least three bouts and whether he can stay at the lightweight limit for another year is yet to be seen but highly unlikely.
Haney vs Lomachenko and the winner vs Shakur Stevenson would be two of the best fights that can be made in all of boxing and fight fans will be hoping these matchups can materialise.
