Promoter Eddie Hearn has sparked speculation around Anthony Joshua’s next opponent, teasing the potential for a big-name showdown in America – on one major condition.
Joshua is coming off his most devastating defeat yet as he was beaten badly by Daniel Dubois in their world title fight in the UK.
Hearn has suggested a rematch with Dubois or a fight with Tyson Fury would be ideal, though with Fury retired and Dubois likely to face Oleksandr Usyk again, it is unlikely either of these will happen.
Instead Hearn has pointed to a different option, a man Joshua was supposed to fight years ago, but who was replaced after failing a drug test.
Eddie Hearn Tips Jarrell Miller To Face Anthony Joshua
“Yeah, the beef is real,” Hearn told reporters. “If ‘Big Baby’ beats Fabio, why not? I think AJ would love to have another fight in America. AJ will fight anyone. I think the ‘Big Baby’ fight is a big fight.”
Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller was set to be the opponent for Joshua’s US debut, but after his positive tests was promptly pulled from the card and replaced by Andy Ruiz Jr., who would go on to shock the world by stopping Joshua in the seventh round.
Miller has since faced Dubois, who he lost to by stoppage in the closing seconds of the fight, and Andy Ruiz, who he drew with.
Joshua has recovered his career since his loss to Ruiz, though lost twice to Usyk in a major hurdle along the way, and now holds victories over Otto Wallin, Francis Ngannou, and Robert Helenius.
The former unified heavyweight champion remains one of the division’s biggest stars and is now eyeing a return to the top with a potential shot at the undisputed title some time in the future looming.
Miller is now scheduled to face Fabio Wardley next after Wardley’s decimation of Frazer Clarke in his most recent fight. If he is able to beat Wardley, it seems the fight that fans didn’t get to see years ago may finally come back around.
