Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn’s purses have been reported as the pair get ever closer to their domestic mega-fight.
Benn and Eubank are each set to earn a reported £7.5million ($10m) for their highly anticipated middleweight showdown this weekend, which has come almost three years later than initially planned due to a long investigation regarding Benn’s use of PEDs.
Eubank Jr’s purse could take a serious hit if he fails to hit the agreed weight limit, though.
Eubank Jr. To Face Huge Penalty If He Misses Weight
Both fighters will reportedly receive a hefty penalty if they are unable to make weight for their sold out fight in London. Benn, who is moving up in weight to face Eubank, is likely to struggle less to make weight, though Eubank, who is boiling down in weight, may face a fine of up to £1million for every pound he comes in overweight.
The weight issue was a major sticking point during the original 2022 negotiations for the ill-fated bout, which was later cancelled due to Benn’s positive drug test.
Eubank won his last fight by stoppage against Kamil Szeremeta, after defeating Liam Smith in their rematch following Smith’s KO of Eubank Jr the first time round. Benn on the other hand has beaten Rodolfo Orozco and Peter Dobson in two unanimous decision victories, lacking KO power after his involvement in PED controversy.
As the rivalry between the sons of British boxing legends reaches boiling point, all eyes will be on the scales as much as the fight itself.
