British heavyweight boxer Fabio Wardley has publicly accused Kubrat Pulev of avoiding a potential fight, asserting that the Bulgarian veteran is “scared” to face him. Wardley, who recently secured a first-round knockout victory over Frazer Clarke in Saudi Arabia, expressed frustration over failed negotiations with Pulev’s team. As a result, Wardley is now scheduled to fight Jarrell Miller on June 7 at Portman Road Stadium in Ipswich.
Fabio Wardley Speaks On Pulev Breakdown
Wardley suggested that negotiations were ongoing for the fight, but that eventually Pulev’s team decided to opt out of the match.
“In simple terms, he is scared of me and didn’t want the fight,” Wardley said.
He spoke on his recent performance and why he believes this is what turned Pulev away:
“In my last fight [against Frazer Clarke], I pricked up a few ears. It made a few people pay attention, or made a few people cower and turn away.”
Pulev lost by split decision in 2022 to Derek Chisora, and has only one win of note since then. His latest fight saw him defeat Mahmoud Charr by unanimous decision for the WBA title.
Wardley was asked if he thinks the fight will ever happen, but it seems that ship has sailed:
“I probably don’t see that fight [with Pulev] ever happening because I’m only going to get better.”
