Galal Yafai Opponent Caught in Post-Fight Drug Test Scandal with Adverse Findings

Mexican flyweight Francisco Rodriguez Jr has failed his post-fight drug test after his unanimous decision victory over Galal Yafai in their interim World title fight in June.

Rodriguez seized the WBC interim World flyweight title with a victory over Yafai in his hometown of Birmingham, but the triumph is now tainted by intense scrutiny.

The bout marked the first time former Olympian Yafai had suffered a defeat in his pro career, a decision that is likely to be overturned following these findings.

Despite the loss being likely struck from the record of Yafai, there is no taking away the damage the 32-year-old suffered during the 12-round contest that could have effects on his future performances.

“The matter will be handled by the BBBofC and the WBC.”

Sunny Edwards Faced Backlash Following Broadcasting Comments During Galal Yafai Fight

Former IBF World flyweight champion Sunny Edwards faced criticism for comments he made during the DAZN broadcast of Galal Yafai and Francisco Rodriguez.

Edwards who himself suffered a stoppage defeat to Yafai in his final contest as a pro watched from ringside in Birmingham.

Edwards hinted that the Mexican flyweight’s performance could have been boosted by the use of performance-enhancing substances, a suspicion that now appears to have been confirmed.
