Ryan Garcia signed a contract recently for his next fight. Garcia is set to be fighting on the same card as Devin Haney in order to set up their much-anticipated rematch. In a social media post, Teofimo Lopez has all but revealed that Ryan Garcia vs Teofimo Lopez will happen next.
Ryan Garcia boasts a record of 24-1, with his one loss coming at the hands of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. His last fight saw Garcia drop Devin Haney three times, before winning a majority decision. Ryan landed himself in hot water after the fight, however, as he was found to have had a banned PED – Ostarine, in his system.
The result was changed to a no contest, and Haney’s perfect record was restored. Though there is no place for banned substances in the sport, it seems this controversy has only made the rematch more desirable, with fans curious if a clean Garcia can put on as impressive a performance against ‘The Dream’.
The pair are set to rematch this year, with each having a fight on the same card in the US before colliding with one another. It was this fight that Turki Alalsheikh posted about, saying, ‘The deal is done… The opponent is set…Big news coming soon..Exclusive in the Ring Magazine…Lets get boxing great again…’.
Ryan Garcia vs Teofimo Lopez
Amidst contractual disputes with Top Rank, and the falling through of a clash with Subriel Matias, Teofimo Lopez posted ‘Let the games begin’ on the image of Garcia signing a contract, with Turki responding with an array of emojis, indicating that a deal has been made between Garcia and Lopez.
Teofimo Lopez last won a shutout decision against Steve Claggett in his second defence of the WBO Super Lightweight title he claimed from Josh Taylor.
Lopez has a record of 21-1, with his one defeat coming by way of a major upset loss to George Kambosos Jr.
There has been much back and forth between Garcia and Haney, but with a fight like Ryan Garcia vs Teofimo Lopez in-between, the rematch is not a sure thing, and Lopez is far from an easy opponent. Though set to return in May, it remains to be seen who Haney’s next opponent will be.
The Ring Magazine has confirmed the pair will share the same card in May in the USA, before rematching in October, provided they both win their fights.
