Tyson Fury Falls in New Heavyweight Rankings news

Tyson Fury is coming off his second career-defeat, after losing to Oleksandr Usyk again earlier this month. Fury and Usyk fought a competitive 24 rounds across their two fights, but with two losses now on his record, Tyson Fury’s position has shifted in the WBO’s new heavyweight rankings.

Fury, now 34-2-1, holds wins over the likes of Deontay Wilder, Dillian Whyte, and Wladimir Klitschko, though has failed to impress in certain recent performances, opting to face Derek Chisora for the third time and a debutant in Francis Ngannou (who almost defeated him) instead of facing the Ukrainian champ, who had taken the belts from Anthony Joshua in just his third fight at heavyweight.

When the fight eventually happened, it was competitive, despite his showboating, Tyson Fury had moments of success, though not enough to get the decision, as the Ukrainian would prove too much, with a particularly memorable Round 9, in which The Gypsy King was almost stopped. In the rematch, a heavier Fury tried a more aggressive style, though this, again, was nullified by the smaller man, and Usyk won a UD.

With these losses now on his record, where is Tyson Fury in the WBO’s new heavyweight rankings, and who will he face next?

New Heavyweight Rankings Revealed

Formerly the Number 1 ranked heavyweight, Tyson Fury has fallen two places in the new heavyweight rankings and now sits at Number 3.

In the Number 1 spot now is former WBO interim champion, Zhilei Zhang, who suffered his second career-defeat to Joseph Parker, his only other loss coming (controversially) at the hands of Filip Hrgovic. Zhang’s spot may, however, be under threat, as he is set to fight Agit Kabayel on February 22nd for the WBC interim title. The WBO is set to strip Joseph Parker of the interim title for challenging for Dubois’ IBF belt, and, in similar fashion, may remove Zhang’s top spot as a result of his challenging for another organisation’s belt.

Bakole stops Anderson.

The Number 2 spot of the new heavyweight rankings now belongs to Martin Bakole, who had a dominant performance against Jared Anderson, stopping him in the fifth round on the Crawford vs Madrimov undercard. Bakole is set to face Efe Ajagba in an IBF eliminator next year, and so could also see his placement change.
