RYAN GARCIA VS GERVONTA DAVIS 50-50 FIGHT GIVES BOXING ENCOURAGEMENT!
Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis have reportedly agreed to terms for a fight, according to circulating reports this week. The 50-50 matchup is set to take place in Las Vegas in April.
After months of speculation and with the deal for the fight seemingly dead, boxing fans were thrilled by this week’s news! Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) and Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) have been the subject of much speculation in recent months, with numerous obstacles and hurdles to overcome.
Now it appears that all parties have reached an agreement, signaling more than just this one fight—it shows that blockbuster matchups can be made!
RYAN GARCIA VS GERVONTA DAVIS
Tank tweeted, “I’ll be back in the ring Jan 7. Stay tuned for more details! After that, it’s me and Ryan. Signed, sealed, delivered…done deal!”
KingRy posted on his Twitter page, “I’m so pumped this fight is finally in place—I want it more than anything right now.”
I recently wrote an article about how difficult it is to finalize these kinds of fights, and how we often see them too late or not at all. It’s encouraging to see that different parties and networks can get these deals done when everyone is willing to compromise!
Oscar De La Hoya, whose Golden Boy Promotions represents Ryan Garcia, has been openly critical of Al Haymon and his promotional outfit (PBC), who works with Gervonta Davis. Additionally, the two fighters are aligned with different networks: Showtime (Davis) and DAZN (Garcia), both of which are reported to share a dual-cast Pay-Per-View for this event.
In a sport filled with controversy and politics, this fight gives us hope—hope that we might one day see Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua, or Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence Jr. The best fighting the best, as it should be!
The Lightweight division is thriving right now, with talents like Vasyl Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs), George Kambosos Jr. (20-2, 10 KOs), and current undisputed champion Devin Haney (29-0, 15 KOs). It’s a division where no one fighter is expected to dominate, and many matchups could go either way.
In preparation for Ryan, Tank is set to face Hector Luis Garcia (16-0, 10 KOs) on January 7th in Washington, D.C.
As we await the official announcement of this fight, it’s a great way to end the year with the belief that if these parties can agree, other highly anticipated fights should have no trouble crossing the finish line!
