Levi Giles Q&A Corner

Q: Tell us a bit about your background where are you from? How old were you when you started boxing and why did you start? Was anybody of inspiration to you?

A: I’m from a small town called Grimsby, I started boxing when I was 9 years old at Grimsby amateur boxing club, under Dave Raworth & Kev Blackett. I tried plenty of other sports before boxing, such as football, karate + more. But there wasn’t a buzz like there was when I first walked into the boxing gym. My dad and mum thought it was another one of those try and stop things but here we are 16 years later! it was a trial and error, like I said before I tried plenty of things and none of them I really enjoyed. But boxing was different!

Q: You are currently 12-0 as a professional and Dennis Hobson has just won the purse bid for you to challenge English super featherweight champion Liam Dillon 10-0-1 how excited are you to challenge for national honours and do you know when will the fight happen?

A: It was great news! I know I have to take care of business on June the 5th against a very live opponent who will be coming to win. But it just adds that little extra motivation to the camp now we know the ball is in our court. After I box in June I think September is a great date for us to win the English title! Me and my team know it’s going to be a difficult fight but very winnable and one we believe will show the level we are at / going to.

Q: Do you have any pre or post-fight rituals? Anything you’re superstitious about?

A: Only one superstition I have before a fight is putting my left glove on before my right. It’s one I’ve had from my very first amateur fight to going into my 13th. Other than that one I don’t really have any. I do the same things before each fight, relax, zone out, and focus on getting the job done whoever I’m against!

Q: Who is your boxing idol and why?

A: There are so many greats in the past, and so many good fighters now. I don’t really have just one, but a fighter from the past who I think is the greatest of all time would be Sugar Ray Robinson. I don’t think anyone would of beat him on his day!

Q: Where do you see your career in five years’ time and what do you want to achieve from boxing?

A: It’s hard to say where about I will be in 5 years’ time. But if we carry on doing exactly what I am doing now, working as hard as I do and being mentally very strong then in 5 years’ time I will have a couple of titles around my waist. I have the best team around me with my manager Carl, promoter Dennis, my coaches matty and Andy, my sponsors and Mainly my growing support! The sky is the limit in my head!

The relaxed 26-year-old Grimsby man is challenging for the English title at a later date in the year before a solid test in a couple of weeks’ time, he will want to showcase his skills against a solid champion in Liam Dillon who has already defended the belt once successfully.

Levi knows it is not going to be easy but staying relaxed is key for him knowing he’s been doing this for 16 years he will believe heavily in his own ability as he says the sky is the limit and in a very good position at a very good age in his career who knows where boxing can and will take him!
