Jaime Munguia Returns on June 11 In California With Underwhelming Opponent Set

Unbeaten Middleweight Contender and former junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia (39-0, 30 KOs) is rumoured to return to the ring on June 11th at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California, the same venue as his fight with Gabriel Rosado.

Jaime Munguia could face Britain’s Jimmy ‘Kilrain’ Kelly (26-2) in a Golden Boy Promotions main event that will be televised on streaming platform DAZN.

Jaime Munguia Returns

Munguia last fought in February in his native Mexico against Dmitrius Ballard and was supposed to fight a WBC final eliminator before pulling out. There were negotiations for Jaime Munguia to face WBC Champion Jermall Charlo next, but no deal could be reached with the issue being the platform the contest would be shown on.

Munguia then had to look somewhere else for an opponent for his June date and now may have found a relatively soft opponent in Jimmy Kelly. The 29-year-old Mancunian is coming off a majority decision upset winner over Kazhakstan’s 28-0 Kanat Islam in a ProBox TV February main event but has done little of note in recent times besides that.

Kelly previously unsuccessfully challenged Liam Smith for the WBO Super Welterweight World Title in 2015 in a dominant seventh-round stoppage defeat. In 2018, he travelled to Australia to face Dennis Hogan in a WBO title eliminator but came off second best over the twelve round distance.

After a two and a half year layoff, Kelly had a tune-up late last year then travelled to the States to upset Kelly and ultimately earn this opportunity.
