Kane Baker has recently taken to social media in a rant against former opponent Aqib Fiaz. This comes after the pair’s scheduled rematch was cancelled due to ‘irregular betting activity’ with Baker alluding to Fiaz’s wrongdoing in his post.
Baker and Fiaz first clashed back in 2020, where, in Fiaz’s 6th fight, he defeated the tricky journeyman (who at the time had a record of 13-6) in a close points decision, with the scorecards reading 77-75.
After suffering his first career defeat, a stoppage loss to Reece Bellotti, Fiaz was set to face Kane Baker for a second time on the undercard of Tyler Denny vs Felix Cash in what was said to be Baker’s final fight.
Kane Baker vs Aqib Fiaz Cancelled
The fight was cancelled, however, after ‘irregular betting activity’ was reported, said Eddie Hearn. When asked about the situation, Hearn stated, ‘It’s the first time I’ve ever dealt with anything like this in 15 years’.
Rumours began to circulate, with the most popular being that Baker’s team was asked to take a dive in order to fulfil bets made by the Fiaz camp, particularly Fiaz’s brother. Aqib Fiaz maintained his innocence, posting the following to social media as the news broke:
‘Tonight’s fight was cancelled due to a situation I was unaware of and had no involvement in. There is an ongoing investigation and I have been advised to make no comments at this time.’
According to Fiaz, the British Board of Boxing Control cleared his name of any wrongdoing connected to this incident. Despite this, the BBBofC themselves claimed ‘Mr Aqib Fiaz was found in breach of Regulation 30 and fined by the Board’. Regulation 30 pertains to betting. His brother, Asam Fiaz, was also found guilty and ‘decided to withdraw his Second’s licence’.
Kane Baker Social Media Rant
Fiaz’s declaration of his innocence has not stopped Kane Baker’s accusations of malpractice, as the 19-11-1 fighter posted to social media today, writing, ‘Breaking News! Fiaz Baker 3 is off before it’s announced! High flying cash cow ticket selling prospect refuses to fight journey man pensioner Kane Baker on Matchrooms Manchester show’.
Kane Baker indicates that the pair’s rematch was set to be rescheduled, but that Fiaz’s team did not want it. He elaborates in his caption,
‘Matchroom called me to fight you, I said yes, and you said no. You know what you done, big bro knows. Your two poxy solicitors […] and the BBBofC know. […] YOU offered me big bro’s dough to take a body shot and roll’.
In a follow-up post, Baker doubled down, writing, ‘I know it’s hard to accept the truth but the Fiaz brothers begged me to take a dive’.
