Renowned for his dominance across multiple weight classes, Terence “Bud” Crawford recently shared his top five pound-for-pound boxers during an appearance on the “Pound 4 Pound” podcast with UFC fighters Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman.
Crawford’s selections highlight fighters who have demonstrated exceptional skill and achievement in the sport:
Terence Crawford
Crawford, hailing from Omaha, Nebraska, boasts an unblemished professional record of 41 wins, 0 losses, and 0 draws, with 31 victories coming by knockout. He has held multiple world titles across four weight divisions: lightweight, super-lightweight, welterweight, and super-welterweight.
In his most recent bout Crawford secured a unanimous decision victory over then-undefeated Israil Madrimov.
Naoya Inoue
Known as “The Monster,” Japan’s Naoya Inoue has an impressive record of 29 wins and no losses, with 26 knockouts.
Inoue has captured world titles four weight divisions, and is one of only three men who have become undisputed in two separate divisions in the four-belt era.
His most recent fight saw Inoue stop late-replacement Ye Joon Kim in the fourth round. He is scheduled to face Ramon Cardenas in May.
Canelo Álvarez
Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez has a professional record of 62 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws, with 39 knockouts. Álvarez, for many, remains the face of boxing, and has only lost to Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.
Alvarez has beaten the likes of Caleb Plant, Billy Joe Saunders, Miguel Cotto, Sergey Kovalev, Gennadiy Golovkin and many more over the span of his illustrious career.
His last fight saw him defeat Edgar Berlanga by unanimous decision, and he is scheduled to fight William Scull in May for the undisputed super-middleweight crown.
A win would make it the second time Canelo has been undisputed in the super-middleweight division.
Crawford is set to face Canelo later this year in a fight between two pound-for-pound icons.
Oleksandr Usyk
Oleksandr Usyk remains undefeated with a record of 23-0 following his back-to-back wins over Tyson Fury, as well as his victories over Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua too.
Usyk achieved undisputed cruiserweight champion status before moving up to heavyweight, where he became the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis.
Gervonta Davis
American fighter Gervonta “Tank” Davis holds a perfect record of 30 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw, which marks the first stain on his otherwise perfect record. Davis fought to a draw in his last fight with Lamont Roach Jr., a fight many expected Davis to win spectacularly.
Though Crawford has had issues with Davis in the past, it’s clear that he rates him highly, putting him in his top five pound-for-pound list.
One name that appears to be missing from Crawford’s list is his own rival Errol Spence. Crawford dismantled Spence in his fight before last, though the Texan holds wins over Kell Brook, Shawn Porter, and Danny Garcia.
