Ebanie Bridges vs Shannon O’Connell: Matchroom Win Purse Bids To All-Australian World Title Fight
Matchroom Boxing has won the purse bids for the promotional rights to Ebanie Bridges vs Shannon O’Connell and will be staging the contest on DAZN in the last quarter of the year.
The fight will likely be in the United Kingdom after Bridges declared she does not want to fight in Australia at the moment, despite it being an all-Australian affair.
There was no date provided but due to Bridges’ affiliation with Leeds, it is expected that the bout will take place on the undercard of Josh Warrington‘s next fight.
Ebanie Bridges vs Shannon O’Connell Background
Australia’s Ebanie Bridges (8-1) was ordered to defend her IBF world Bantamweight title against mandatory challenger, and also from Australia, Shannon O’Connell (23-6-1) on July 22.
Bridges, represented by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, was planning to fight in September likely on the Wood-Lara undercard but after a mandatory was imposed that was no longer possible.
Matchroom Boxing offered O’Connell the fight against Bridges for September 24 in Nottingham, O’Connell turned down the offer forcing Matchroom to unsuccessfully request a voluntary defence to attempt to allow Bridges to compete on Sep 24.
NoLimitBoxing, who represents Shannon O’Connell, also made a proposal to Bridges to face O’Connell in Australia; that was also turned down. As a result, the IBF ordered purse bids for September 13 since no deal could be reached.
