Jack Cullen Confirms His Next Fight Date, Eyes 2023 Clash With Mark Heffron
Jack Cullen (21-3-1, 9 KOs) returns to action on Saturday, December 3 as he headlines at the University Of Bolton Stadium in his hometown of Bolton, Lancashire, England.
NoSmokeBoxing was informed that Cullen was set to face Mark Heffron on the Joyce vs Parker undercard in Manchester, but Heffron’s manager Kevin Maree poured cold water on these reports and the fight never materialised.
Jack Cullen Targets European Title Rematch
However, Cullen told his promoter VIP Boxing in an interview that the boxing community knows that a clash with Heffron ‘would make a f****** brilliant fight’ and is what ‘people want to see’.
Heffron and Maree are both keen on targeting European champion Kevin Lele Sadjo, who knocked out Jack Cullen last year. It’s easy to see both sides. Heffron and his team would earn more credit for fighting Sadjo. (To add to the intrigue, Cullen also said in his interview with VIP Boxing that HE would rematch Sadjo, if he doesn’t get the Heffron fight.)
A win against Sadjo would also push Heffron up the rankings to an even greater extent and add the European to his collection. On the other side, Cullen provides a narrative of a local rivalry (Oldham vs Little Lever) that would potentially sell more tickets and generate a bigger TV audience.
In an age where big venues are frequently misused and under-filled, the bout would also serve well as an atmospheric, fan/packed chief support.
Regardless of whether that particular fight gets made, Cullen is intent on making his mark on the UK boxing scene. ‘I’m coming for them titles and hoping to get back on them TV shows next year’.
There is also another potential domestic foe. NoSmokeBoxing also exclusively reported on calls from Reece Cartwright for Jack Cullen to accept a fight with him.
