Adam Azim vs Ohara Davies at the Copper Box on October 19th CONFIRMED
Adam Azim vs Ohara Davies at the Copper Box Arena on October 19th has recently been confirmed and announced by BOXXER. In a bout titled ‘High Voltage’, Azim will look to overcome the power and experience of Davies as he looks to push his career forward with this big step up in opposition.
‘The Assassin’ Adam Azim has been topic of discussion recently, with many fans eager to see his return to the ring. He has been tipped to fight a few different boxers including Dalton Smith and Harlem Eubank but has recently announced that he will be fighting 25-3 Ohara ‘Two Tanks’ Davies.
Adam Azim vs Ohara Davies Fight Confirmed
Ohara Davies has been the name that has been linked with Azim in recent days with the man from Hackney appearing as the front-runner. This was quickly shut down by ‘Two Tanks’ himself after replying to the fight rumour and calling it “fake news”. But despite this accusation, this fight has now been announced.
Fans were quick to voice their opinions of the potential match up in replies to Davies’ comments with one fan saying “it’s the fight to make” and another saying “a good fight though”.
Adam Azim last fought in February at Wembley Arena, where he successfully defended his EBU European title against Enock Poulson after winning it the fight before against Franck Petitjean. Both being relatively comfortable bouts for the Brit.
When speaking to TalkSPORT in August, Azim explained how ‘setbacks’ have been the reason his return has taken this long. He named having wrist problems and rolling his ankle as just two of the injuries he had sustained since his fight in the capital.
“These things happen along the way when you have your career, but everything happens for a reason, and my career is going really well at the moment.”
Adam Azim potential clash with Dalton Smith
Initially, after retaining the EBU European title, it looked like Adam Azim was going to be meeting Sheffield’s Dalton Smith, if Smith was able to get through his WBC Silver title fight against Jose Zepeda which he did via KO in round 5.
Despite going into negotiations numerous times after the EBU scheduled the two Super Lightweights to square off for the European strap, Azim relinquished the title, opting for a different path instead.
When asked about the failure to make the fight, BOXXER promotor, Ben Shalom explained how there may have been different options on the table for his fighter and how his team may have other plans but insisted it will be a fight that is seen this year.
“There are arguments for and against taking the fight. The reasons could be, he’s 21, he wants the big fights down the line. It could be that his profile is in a different place to Smith, casual fans know who Adam Azim is. His team might decide that given he’s only 21, there are more suitable fights out there for him at this stage.”
After the news of talks breaking down and Azim vacating his European title after just one defence, Smith claimed that Azim did not want the fight and that he looked for big fights which won’t happen unless he faces Dalton.
Adam Azim almost fighting Harlem Eubank
Adam Azim faced off against another potential opponent in Harlem Eubank, nephew of the great Chris Eubank Sr, after talks with Smith failed to materialise. The pair met each other in the ring to announce their clash before Fabio Wardley vs Frazer Clarke at the O2 Arena.
However, it was never officially confirmed, and talks had broken down since they spoke in the ring. Azim did reveal that the deal to fight Harlem Eubank was signed but the date and venue were not confirmed at the time.
Harlem Eubank has enjoyed a spell of good performances and wins during his time with Wasserman Boxing and the thought of a clash between the 30-year-old and ‘The Assassin’ was seemingly enough to distract the boxing fans from the failed negotiations with Smith.
Adam Azim may potentially face Dalton Smith and Harlem Eubank down the line but for now, he is looking to capitalise on a Davies who lost his last fight against Ismael Barroso by TKO. Ohara will instead be looking to bounce back from that defeat against what will be one of the toughest tests of his career so far.
